Sanitas has opened Hospital Blua Sanitas Valdebebas, its fifth hospital in Spain and the first designed from the outset as a fully digital-native hospital. This new facility, the most modern in Europe, represents a transformation in the care model by offering a hybrid experience in which in-person and digital care are seamlessly integrated.
“The opening of Hospital Blua Sanitas Valdebebas marks a turning point in the way we understand healthcare. We have designed a hospital built for the present and the future, where technology, sustainability, and personalized care come together to deliver the best possible patient experience. This center reflects our commitment to a more human, more connected, and more efficient healthcare model,” said Susana Quintanilla, Managing Director of Sanitas Hospitals.
Located in the Valdebebas district, in northeastern Madrid, the hospital spans more than 30,000 square meters across ten floors: eight dedicated to clinical use and two for parking. It has 110 state-of-the-art rooms, including 20 specifically designed for mental health care, all equipped with advanced technology and integrated smart automation systems. In addition, it is the first hospital in Europe to incorporate Alexa Smart Properties, a solution that allows patients to control their environment through voice commands and request immediate assistance, improving both patient well-being and the efficiency of the clinical team.
In this setting, the entire patient journey—from admission to clinical progress and medical documentation—can be accessed digitally through the MiSanitas app, reinforcing transparency, accessibility, and personalized care.
Hospital Blua Sanitas Valdebebas is also home to two flagship units within its personalized care model. On the one hand, the Advanced Oncology Institute provides 360-degree care, combining cutting-edge technology with a human-centered approach and incorporating mental health support as part of the therapeutic process. On the other, the Mental Health Institute has 20 inpatient beds and brings together psychiatry and psychology within a single adapted and secure environment, as well as a day hospital and 24-hour emergency care.
The hospital also includes a Diagnostic Imaging Unit equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as spectral CT and two MRI systems, one of them a 3 Tesla MRI, enabling highly accurate diagnoses in less time. All of this equipment has been selected according to sustainability criteria and forms part of the green radiology model, with systems that reduce energy consumption, environmental footprint, and emissions thanks to the full digitalization of imaging tests and cloud-based delivery of results.
“We are committed to a hybrid healthcare model that combines the best clinical professionals with the advantages digital solutions offer for health management. Thanks to this combination, we are able to provide medicine that is more preventive, precise, participatory, personalized and, of course, more sustainable,” Peralta concludes.
The hospital has been designed to meet the highest sustainability standards, making it Sanitas’s most sustainable hospital to date. It operates on 100% renewable energy, features electrified climate control systems, and achieves a 94% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared with the average hospital sector in Spain, according to ARUP data (2024). Finally, its biophilic design, which includes green roofs and gardens, helps improve air quality, reduce patient stress, and mitigate the urban heat island effect.
The hospital also includes an in-house Dental Unit, with key specialties such as pediatric dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, implantology, and, of course, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ensuring a multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach to care.
