Sanitas opens the doors of Hospital Blua Sanitas Valdebebas, its fifth hospital center in Spain and the first designed from the ground up as a digitally native hospital. This new hospital, the most modern in Europe, represents a transformation of the care model by offering a hybrid experience in which in-person and digital care coexist seamlessly. Located in the Valdebebas district of Madrid, it is Spain’s most technologically advanced hospital, staffed by top healthcare professionals and featuring leading areas such as Oncology, Mental Health, Radiodiagnostics, as well as the new Clinical Trials Unit, which serves as the physical headquarters of the research work carried out by the Sanitas Hospitals Research Foundation. The hospital, located in the Valdebebas district in northeast Madrid, covers more than 30,000 square meters across ten floors: eight dedicated to healthcare services and two for parking. It features 110 state-of-the-art rooms, including 20 specifically designed for mental health care, all equipped with advanced technology and integrated home automation. In addition, it is the first hospital in Europe to incorporate Alexa Smart Properties, a solution that allows patients to control their environment through voice commands and request immediate assistance, enhancing both patient wellbeing and clinical team efficiency.

In this context, the entire patient journey—from admission to clinical progress and medical documentation—can be accessed digitally through the Mi Sanitas app, reinforcing transparency, accessibility, and personalized care. Hospital Blua Sanitas Valdebebas is also home to two flagship units within its personalized care model. On one hand, the Advanced Oncology Institute provides 360° care, combining cutting-edge technology with a human-centered approach and integrating mental health support as part of the therapeutic process. On the other hand, the Mental Health Institute offers 20 inpatient beds and brings together psychiatry and psychology specialties within a single, adapted, and secure environment, as well as a day hospital and 24-hour emergency services.

The hospital also includes a Radiodiagnostics Unit equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as spectral CT scanning and two MRI machines—one of them a 3-tesla system—enabling highly accurate diagnoses in less time. All equipment has been selected according to sustainability criteria and is part of the “green radiology” model, featuring systems that reduce energy consumption, environmental footprint, and emissions through fully digital imaging and cloud-based delivery of results.

The hospital has been designed according to the highest sustainability standards, making it the most sustainable hospital within Sanitas. It operates on 100% renewable energy, features fully electrified climate control systems, and achieves a 94% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the Spanish hospital sector average, according to ARUP consultancy data (2024). Finally, its biophilic design—including green rooftops and gardens—helps improve air quality, reduce patient stress, and mitigate the urban heat island effect. The hospital also includes an in-house Dental area offering specialties such as pediatric dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, implantology, and maxillofacial surgery, ensuring a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to care.
